Ibn al-Qayyim, may God Almighty have mercy on him, said: “God sent His messengers and revealed His books so that people may uphold justice, which is the justice by which the earth and the heavens stand; so when the signs of justice appear, and its face becomes clear by whatever means, there is the law of God and His religion.”

And if we look back at the history of laws and religions, we are certain that God Almighty sent the messengers and prophets with laws and rulings, so that people may be guided by them in their lives, and each of them may know his right and stop at it, and perceive his duty and abide by it.

The purpose of the Sharia is that every person exercise his right, and preserve the rights of others; so it set boundaries between them, and undertook to lay down the rules for acquiring, using, and disposing of them, such that no individual transgresses against another, no Muslim wrongs his brother, nor exceeds the limit in his own right, nor abuses it; and thereby every person knows what is due to him and what is due from him, and happiness, tranquility, security, and safety are achieved in life.
